Atlantic City, NJ (May 1, 2019) – The American Legion, Department of New Jersey, has awarded Steve Callender, Senior Vice President of Operations – East Region, Eldorado Resorts, Inc. and Tropicana Atlantic City, the Top Homeless Veterans Outreach Award for a Multi-national Private Sector Business.

The award recognizes organizations for their activities toward eliminating homelessness among veterans and prevention of future homeless veterans in the State of New Jersey.

“I am extremely proud to be this year’s recipient of the Top Homeless Veterans Outreach Award,” said Callender. “It is through our continued support of the American Legion and their incredible mission that we can begin to make constructive changes in the lives of our local veterans.”

“Steve Callender and his team have been supporting partners since the inception of our Atlantic City Regional Stand Down for homeless veterans and families,” said Bob Looby, Chairman, NJ Employment, Homeless & Education Chairman, Past State Commander. “When first asked if he would furnish a hot lunch and other support for our most vulnerable veterans and families, the immediate response was YES!  Our current request is for 450 full meals, and the answer is still YES!  Their supporting partnership was instrumental with our New Jersey Committee receiving two first place National Homeless Veteran Outreach Awards! Mr. Callender & Team truly ‘walk the talk.’”

The awards presentation will take place during the Department’s annual convention at the Wildwoods Convention Center on June 13, 2019.
