Legendary Superstar Engelbert Humperdinck Returns to the Tropicana Showroom, November 9 - 11
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (October 1, 2007) – Celebrating more than 40 years in the music industry, Engelbert Humperdinck returns to the Tropicana with his ultra-smooth style and romantic music. The Tropicana Casino and Resort announced the return of Engelbert Humperdinck to the Tropicana Showroom on Friday, November 9 through Sunday, November 11, 2007.
With recent international acclaim and a new platinum hit, Humperdinck is enjoying career resurgence. His newest U.S. release, "Engelbert Humperdinck's - Greatest Love Songs," reached number four on the UK charts and went platinum. Coupled with his national television commercial for John Smith's beer, and the re-release of "Release Me," Humperdinck is enjoying increased popularity in his home country. He continues to tour worldwide and remains a box office draw due to his legendary career.
Throughout his 35-year career, Humperdinck generated sales in excess of 130 million records, including 64 Gold albums, 24 platinum albums, four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has performed for the Queen of England, several Presidents of the U.S. and many heads of state. He also performed with some of the greatest entertainers, including musical legend - Elvis Presley.
Humperdinck was born Arnold George Dorsey and later changed his name to Engelbert Humperdinck after the 19th century Austrian composer. In 1967, Humperdinck released the pop ballad version of "Release Me" which hit the top of the British charts, reached number one in 11 countries and remained on the charts for 56 consecutive weeks, earning Humperdinck a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. "Release Me" led to the making of seven straight Top Five songs, and Humperdinck became internationally known for his easy listening hits throughout the 1970s.
