Sister Hazel and Edwin McCain play it live May 24 at the Tropicana
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (April 22, 2008) –
Blending equal parts folk, soul and alternative rock, the five-member band Sister Hazel and platinum-selling singer/songwriter Edwin McCain will combine musical forces for one incredible show at The Tropicana Casino and Resort on Saturday, May 24, 2008.
For Sister Hazel, it’s always been about the music, which many have called solid and satisfying, comfortable and easy, like old friends and family. Following on the heels of the successful Absolutely album (the band’s sixth studio record), fans have had their requests answered twice in 2007: first with the release of a b-sides and rarities disc entitled “BAM!” during the summer, and with the release of a holiday album in September entitled Santa’s Playlist. Fans can expect another musical treat in June 2008 with the release of a live acoustic album entitled Before The Amplifiers.
The fivesome has never been far from the road, and their consistent, regular touring has only helped to grow their fan base, year in and year out. The result has been a group of fans who are extraordinarily loyal, some of whom follow the band on the road from city to city. Fans have also flocked to special fan-centric events Sister Hazel helped to create: The Rock Boat, the world’s largest floating music festival; and the Hazelnut Hang, a weekend-long opportunity for fans to socialize with the band and hear them perform, held each year in May in Isle of Palms, South Carolina.
Edwin McCain has a romantic soul and a way of investing life’s everyday moments with a poetry all his own. Lost In America, his seventh album, is another collection from a man whose career is marked by his talent for delving into the human condition and producing songs of uncommon insight and compassion. “I live my life and I write about it,” McCain said. “I take whatever happens to me between records and spend time thinking and feeling it through, then I draw on the lessons I’ve learned and try to find the music in it.” It’s the same method McCain has used since he first picked up a guitar and decided he wanted to be a wandering troubadour.
McCain’s debut, Honor Among Thieves, captured his acoustic based blend of folk, pop and soul accented by some funky electric guitar, a horn section and backing singers. It did well, but nothing could have prepared him for the frenzy that was created by his second outing, Misguided Roses. The popular WB TV show “Dawson’s Creek” played “I’ll Be,” one of the album’s most romantic ballads, on an episode of the show and sent McCain’s career into overdrive. Misguided Roses went Gold; the song went Top 10 and was voted one of The Greatest Love Songs Of All Time by VH1.
Sister Hazel and Edwin McCain will take the stage at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008. Tickets are priced at $25, $30 and $35, and are available through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or via phone at 1.800.736.1420, or at the Tropicana Box Office, located on the 1st floor of the North Tower.
