Top Rank Teams up with Pound for Pound Promotions For April 11th Show at Tropicana Casino and Resort.
Atlantic City, NJ (March 17, 2008) – Top Rank will be teaming up with Pound for Pound Promotions to bring an exciting night of boxing on April 11th at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, which falls on the eve of Miguel Cotto defending his WBA welterweight crown against Alfonso Gomez.
The main event will feature New York City, NY product Chris “The Mechanic” Smith (21-4-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight match-up against Los Mochis, MX native Jesus Soto-Karass (19-3-3, 14 KOs). In his last fight, Smith won a six-round split-decision back in December of last year when he fought Jonathon Tubbs (10-3-1) in Albany, NY. Soto-Karass defeated veteran Germaine Sanders (27-4) with a 10-round unanimous decision this past January. In the co-feature, Ben Tackie (29-9-1, 17 KOs) will take on Cauguas, PR product Henry Bruseles (26-3-1, 15 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight showdown.
The undercard will display a handful of rising young talent that will round out an exciting evening of boxing. All fighting in four-round bouts will be light heavyweight and Philadelphia native Dennis Hasson, who will be making his pro debut; New Brunswick, NJ bantamweight Jorge Diaz (3-0, 3 KOs), two-time national champion and Paterson, NJ junior welterweight Jeremy “Hollywood” Bryan (3-0, 1 KO) and Union City, NJ 168-pounder Jason Escalera (1-0, 1 KO).
