DON RICKLES SIGNS EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT WITH THE TROPICANA CASINO & RESORT
January 11-13 engagement marks first of six 2008 appearances
in the Tropicana Showroom
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – November 27, 2007 – Marking his 29th consecutive year headlining at the New Jersey shore, Don Rickles has signed for a series of six exclusive appearances at the Tropicana Casino & Resort. His 2008 kickoff engagement in the Tropicana Showroom is Friday, January 11 through Sunday, January 13. This marks Rickles’ first appearance at the Tropicana since 2003. Since he first appeared in 1978, Rickles has always had a contract to perform at an Atlantic City hotel.
Rickles noted, “I'm very grateful to be working at the Tropicana again. It was either that or going back to pushing a rolling chair on the Boardwalk.”
“When it comes to no-holds barred stand-up comedy, Don Rickles is the master,” said Mark Giannantonio, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Tropicana. “The Tropicana is proud to be the official home of this comedy legend.”
With a career spanning nearly 50 years, Don Rickles is regarded among the world’s top entertainers. He has even become a best selling author with the spring 2007 release of “Rickles’ Book” by Simon & Schuster.
His style of comedy just happened. Two years after his discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946, he was working in nightclubs. Never a great joke teller in the traditional sense, Rickles suddenly found himself talking directly to the audience and throwing off the cuff lines at them. Rickles soon became the in comic among the Hollywood stars, who flocked to his nightclub engagements to become the targets of his zings.
Of course, behind the sharp Rickles’ barbs is a deep affection and love for those whom he seems to be taunting. “If I were to insult people and mean it, that wouldn't be funny,” Rickles once told an interviewer. “There is a difference between an actual insult and just having fun.”
Over the course of his career Rickles has had two best-selling comedy albums and received the United States Comedy & Arts Festival’s 2007 Pinnacle Award acknowledging his body of work.
Show times are 9 p.m. on January 11, 9 p.m. on January 12 and 7 p.m. on January 13, 2007. Tickets are priced at $25 to 40, and are available through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or via phone at 1.800.736.1420, or at the Tropicana Box Office, located on the 1st floor of the North Tower.
